Minneapolis
School of Massage & Bodywork—Minneapolis
Massage School Expands
to Second Location
THE MINNEAPOLIS SCHOOL of Massage and Bodywork, Inc. (MSMB) has specialized exclusively
in the training of massage techniques for the past 26 years. MSMB is proud to announce
a new permanent home. Our 11,500 square foot building is located at 81 Lowry Ave
NE in Minneapolis, just one block from our clinic site at 220 Lowry Ave NE. It feels
so right and comfy to have nice, new, very large classrooms—nine in all—plus a student
lounge and a great resource center. The reception area and administrative offices
are welcoming and efficient. We invite you for a tour of our new home. As always,
MSMB offers the finest programs in the training of massage and bodywork. These programs
excel in part due to the outstanding MSMB instructors.
Upon enrolling at MSMB you may choose from two programs. The 202-hour Massage Practitioner
Training Program is an excellent introduction toward a career in the massage/bodywork
field, enabling you to give a relaxing, therapeutic, full body massage, incorporating
both light and firm pressure. Contraindications for massage and introduction to kinesiology
will be an integral part of your training. These skills are appropriate for massage
with the general public, for employment in spas, salons, and self-employment in various
settings.
In the 626-hour Therapeutic Body Wellness Massage Training Program, students will
be educated in the structures, functions, and pathological conditions affecting all
systems of the body. Emphasis will be placed upon the role of the massage therapist
in situations of health and disease with extensive kinesiology and muscle dynamics.
These skills are appropriate for massage with chiropractors, doctors, most professional
environments, in rehabilitation centers, hospitals, nursing homes, hospice, corporate
wellness programs, pain clinics, athletic programs in both high school and college
level, health clubs, and massage centers, as well as self employment in various settings.
You may choose to attend two mornings or evenings, or four mornings or evenings per
week or a Tuesday and Thursday all day class. Program time lengths vary from three
to 18 months. Programs begin every seven weeks.
MSMB holds two accreditations, institutional and programmatic. In February of 1994
the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT),
a nationally recognized accrediting body of the United States Department of Education,
first granted MSMB the status of an accredited institution with renewal of another
five years achieved in 1999. Achieving this status enables perspective students to
be assured of top quality training in compliance with the standards set forth by
the Department of Education and non-discriminatory policies. Institutional accreditation
also makes it possible for those who qualify to apply for Minnesota State grant monies
as well as the State of Minnesota SELF-Loan program.
Programmatic accreditation was granted in 1994 with another five years renewal achieved
in March 2001 through the International Massage and Somatic Therapies Accreditation
Council (IMSTAC), a division of Associated Bodywork Massage Professionals (ABMP).
This accreditation means MSMB training programs meet the standards set forth by this
organization for educational excellence.
Financial Aid
MSMB offers, for those who qualify, the following sources of financial aid—Minnesota
State Grant, Minnesota Self Loan Program, MSMB monthly payment plan. For further
financial information please contact financial aid personnel.
Student clinic
MSMB student clinic/lab is Minnesota’s longest established, largest, and most
popular bodywork clinic. We have 12 individual therapy rooms where students are able
to practice not only their newly learned bodywork techniques, but also their skills
learned in communication, ethics, and business courses on each individual client.
Students are supervised and graded for each session assuring them of perfecting all
aspects of becoming a very competent massage therapist.
Graduates of MSMB are all capable of giving the most loving, caring, and nurturing
full body massage, sure to provide the space for a client to fully relax and become
one with their body, mind, and spirit. The majority of graduates are from the 626-hour
Therapeutic Body Wellness Massage Training Program, and are capable of providing
an extremely therapeutic, rehabilitative bodywork session for clients’ overall body
needs.
All of MSMB staff provides a very supportive environment for each student, assuring
them training administered in a positive manner, providing individual attention,
extra special monitoring of proper body mechanics, and application of each stroke
performed. It is of no wonder MSMB graduates are easily employed. They are sought
after by employers for their thorough and well rounded education received at MSMB.
They are truly prepared professional massage therapists.
